Operation Medicine Drop Aiming to Reduce Poisoni

WEAVERVILLE, N.C. -- Law enforcement offices across North Carolina are taking part in Operation Medicine Drop this week in an effort to prevent overdoses and poisonings. They're offering drop boxes for expired and unneeded prescription drugs, which are then incinerated. Sgt. Andy Mace with the Weaverville Police Department urges people with unneeded medications to take advantage of this form of disposal. "It's important to keep the old and unused medications out of the hands that don't need to have them [like] younger folks," Mace said. "Also people would normally try to flush them get rid of them something like that [and that] gets medication in the water supply, which is bad for all of us."
