Fear in Piparo as mud volcano erupts The Piparo mud volcano is currently more active than in 2019, with mud bubbling and spewing several feet into the air. Concerned residents have contacted authorities, prompting the Couva Tabaquite Talparo Regional Corporation’s disaster management unit to respond. The University of the West Indies is monitoring the site. The volcano previously caused a major eruption in 1997, burying homes, vehicles, and livestock, and leading to the evacuation of 300 residents.
