An exclusive look at the Unveiling of the Holy Stairs
According to tradition, Jesus climbed up the "Scala Santa" to the Palace of Pontius Pilate during his Passion. St. Helena had the stairs transported from the Holy Land to Rome shortly after the legalization of Christianity by her son, Emperor Constantine. Due to restoration work, the stairs were left uncovered allowing for pilgrims to make the same journey as Christ.
