VW wheel speed sensor test & replace, ABS and ESC faults (Golf 6)

Replacing a rear wheel speed (ABS) sensor on a Volkswagen Golf Mk6. Dashboard warnings re brakes, stability control, and steering, and fault codes pointing to wheel speed sensor. VCDS and voltage testing further suggested a faulty sensor. While the car remains drivable, in addition to the ABS and ESC systems failing I found a faulty wheel speed sensor also kills things like hill-start assist.
