The game is based on the Batman character by DC Comics and takes place early in the Caped Crusader's career. Set a year after the events of Batman: The Telltale Series, Gotham City is largely recovering from the chaos caused by Two Face, with crime on a steady decline. Bruce Wayne has resumed his status as Wayne Enterprise's CEO, and has done much to both undo the damage caused by Penguin as well as aid Gotham City, recompensing the city for his father's crimes and restoring the Wayne honor. As Batman, Bruce holds a steady alliance with Commissioner Gordon and the GCPD, rounding up criminals and helping make Gotham a safer place, earning praise of the local gothamites. This all changes, however, with the return of a villain from Gotham's past: the Riddler. With Riddler's return, a host of new faces flood the streets, including Bane, Mr. Freeze, Amanda Waller, and the unstable John Doe, challenging both Batman's alliances and Bruce Wayne's still checkered image.
