Perhaps the hype isn't quite there yet for this 17th century drink/cough cure but it's a fascinating story nonetheless. Take an aging cockerel, put it in a bag with ten gallons of ale, mixed with spices and leave for a fortnight and hey presto! You've got a drink that's somewhere between small-beer and treacle, and it's good for throat phlegm too!
