The Durga Ashtami fast is observed on the Ashtami (eighth day) of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase) of every month. By observing the Durga Ashtami fast, Goddess Durga fulfills all wishes and bestows her blessings. On this day, one should wake up before sunrise, bathe, and wear clean clothes. After cleaning the idol or photo of the Goddess, one should worship Goddess Durga with incense, lamps, vermillion, rice grains, and red flowers. Fruits and sweets should be offered as Prasad.
