Dhawan's ton in vain as India loses first Test by 40 runs

After being firmly in New Zealand's hands for the first two days, the momentum started swinging towards the Indian side after a seesaw third day. Despite pegging the Kiwis back with an exemplary bowling display, the Indian team headed into the third day looking like a side that could win. A blazing ton by Shikhar Dhawan, who had on the third day seemed out of place on th turf, put India right back into the match before the Kiwi pacers, who almost magically found their nick in the second session triggered a middle-order collpase to have India playing catch-up yet again. Dhoni, Jadeja and even Zaheer Khan offered some resilience but they all proved futile as an inspired NZ team scuttled the visitor for 366, fourty one runs shy of the target.
