탈레반 "카불 북부 바글란주 탈환…마지막 거점도 포위" Turning to the turmoil in Afghanistan after the Taliban's rapid takeover of the country. No major outbreaks of violence have been reported over the past 24 hours. However, the Taliban is warning the U.S. to remove troops by the original August 31st deadline. There are growing calls in Washington to extend that date as there are still an unknown number of Americans stuck in Afghanistan. Kim Sung-min reports. Roughly a week since the Taliban's takeover in Afghanistan, the country's new rulers have retaken three districts in the northern part of the country,... that had fallen to local militia groups. That's according to a Taliban spokesman on Monday who also said that there was no confirmed reports of further fighting. The three districts in the Northern Province of Baghlan had been under the control of local militia groups from last week as part of an armed resistance to the Taliban's seizure of the capital Kabul. The spokesman said, the Taliban were now in control across the three regions surrounding the Panjshir valley, as they were done with clearing the districts. Panjshir is where forces of Ahmad Massoud have established themselves,... an area which resisted both the Soviets and the Taliban two decades ago. While Massoud called for negotiations to form an inclusive government,... he also insisted there would be resistance,... should Taliban forces try to enter the valley. While there are no signs of any fighting so far,... an aide to Massoud said both their forces and those of the Taliban were standing ready for military action. Meanwhile, the U.S. is ramping up evacuation efforts at Kabul's airport. Washington said on Monday that 28 U.S. military flights had evacuated some 10-thousand people from Kabul over the past 24-hours,... something President Joe Biden called "one of the largest, most difficult airlifts in history" last week. The president also said he could not rule out extending the withdrawal efforts beyond August 31st, the original deadline set by the U.S. G7 leaders are also likely to push Biden on his plans,... during their virtual meeting set for Tuesday. After Biden's remarks however, the Taliban warned that all U.S. forces must leave the country by August 31st. It said, if the U.S. does not adhere to the removal of troops from Afghanistan by that date,... it would be a "clear violation" of their agreement and that proper and necessary decisions will have to be made.
