A video from the visit inside the restricted red zone which surrounds the Fukushima Daiichi NPP. This is the main street next to the train station in the town of Ohkuma. The town is just about three kilometers away from the nuclear power plant. It stays as it was left eight years ago and the vegetation is taking it over. The eerie sound which can be heard is (I guess) the pressure in the pipes under the streets which are unattended for so long and howl in a creepy way. You do not notice the sound immediately while walking around, but when you become aware of it in the middle of the abandoned town, it can make your skin crawl. The Japanese government now (2019) has a plan to start demolishing and decontaminating the area so the railway through the zone can be reopened. The town itself is also being "moved" - they are building new structures to the south, outside of the dangerous zone and hope that some people will come to live here again.
