The third track off my new album, Beyond the Veil - out now! If I was ever going to criticize the Catholic Church, I knew it would have to be backed up by solid arguments, examples, and honest questions. I did not want it to devolve into juvenile rebellion or something that the other side could easily dismiss. So in this track, I ask the catholics a simple question - why is it so important to you to tie your faith to an organization? Having your religious identity tied to an organization that is often corrupt puts you in a horrible position when something goes wrong. Because you're forced to choose between your faith, which asks you to discern between right and wrong and make the correct choice, and loyalty to the Church, a group that wants your unquestioning devotion because it considers itself synonymous with your faith. But the problem is, the Church is of this world, it is here, it is present - it's a tradition. So it's often an easier choice. And when you hear about things like pedophilia and homophobia in the Church, you act like you want to jump back in time to a point prior to hearing about it. They have you convinced that denouncing them means denouncing God. But tell me... do you really think God would think kindly of them despite seeing the pain they cause? And would he think kindly of you for quietly supporting them? Stand against abuse, even if it puts you in a slightly uncomfortable position. Their victims lose more than you ever will. LYRICS: Priests raping kids and avoiding all justice Moved to a different church, man, that's disgusting Why do we accept that, where's the common sense at? How can this be public knowledge no one bats an eye at? Do you jump in time when you hear that piece of info? Go back into history, before it made your skin crawl? Are you that scared it might ruin all your viewpoints That you keep about the Church? Homie, let me keep going I'm no longer Christian, could say I did some switching Pretty sure, though, that "the Church" was never 'bout the building Through the same logic, it's not about the pedophiles You don't need no sugared words if God is what you keep inside Holding them accountable won't ruin all the good stuff Walk your path with love and you'll never get your foot stuck Thought you would be mindful of these values always If pedos represent you, Heaven is an empty hallway Take you back to somewhere The clock won't unwind and you're running out of time Somewhere safe you could stay When life is misaligned and you wanna stay blind Take you back to somewhere The dream, it went rogue, felt like chasing fool's gold Somewhere safe you could stay When nothing feels true, who do you turn to? Turn to what you feel is right even if it breaks some Rules written by misogynistic men, like Salem If you don't stone women now, equality's achievable Then why the fuck's the thought of gay people inconceivable? God's more concerned about two men fucking Than he is about his servant who's into child-touching I don't really buy that, if people now are vile Just imagine how they were when they wrote the fucking Bible Vatican's full of hypocrites and liars, homie Their power comes from making you think that you don't know shit What the fuck's wrong with "live and let live"? Treat a fellow human with respect, kindness you'll receive Was this our destiny or did we go wrong In a certain point in time is what I wanna know I'll be moving forward anyway, I got time You keep spinning on those clocks, hoping they unwind Take you back to somewhere The clock won't unwind and you're running out of time Somewhere safe you could stay When life is misaligned and you wanna stay blind Take you back to somewhere The dream, it went rogue, felt like chasing fool's gold Somewhere safe you could stay When nothing feels true, who do you turn to? Turn to what you feel is right
