Valve Index Ticking Static Sound in Headset Microphone Problem

I was finally able to fix this problem. If you take off the headset cushion face plate mask, there is a small circle headphone input jack above the left eye lens. I had a pair of headphones and plugged them in and then unplugged them. The ticking static sound interference went away then. Wanted to post this here in case it helps anyone else. Edit: I do seem to have to do it every time I want to use the headset. Must have a faulty headphone input jack? Edit Edit: The headset microphone eventually quit working entirely about 6 months later and I had to RMA it back to Valve and they replaced the whole headset.
