#PerumalTemplesOfChennai - 4 - Chintadripet Adikesava Perumal Temple In the early years, the British were engaged in cloth trade in the fort. They paid money to weavers in villages and the cloth would then be brought here. Later, early in the 18th century the idea arose that weavers could be asked to settle around the fort. Two villages were thus created and the first was Chinna Tari Pettah, today’s Chintadripet. This was created by Vennala Adinarayana Chetty, Dubash to the then Governor. He built two temples here - Adipuriswara Temple to Shiva and Adikesava Temple to Vishnu. Situated around a common tank they show the oneness between Shiva and Vishnu. Adikesava Temple is thus the oldest Vishnu temple in Chintadripet.
