Wild Waves (1929) | The Original Mickey Mouse Shorts

Mickey and Minnie head to the seaside for a day of fun, but the ocean has other plans. When Minnie gets swept out by a powerful wave, Mickey leaps into action, battling the surf to rescue her. Safely ashore, the two join a lively crowd of beachgoers for a celebratory sing-along and dance on the sand, turning a moment of danger into a joyous musical finale. Released in December 1929, Wild Waves was the final Mickey Mouse cartoon of the 1920s. Directed by Walt Disney and animated by Ub Iwerks, it gave audiences a fresh seaside setting after a string of revue-style shorts. While still rooted in musical gags, the short built more narrative tension by showing Mickey as both a rescuer and entertainer, further developing his persona as a romantic hero alongside Minnie.
