A day of navigating weight and casting with a Euro Nymphing Rig | Colorado Fly Fishing

This week I prospected some new water while setting some goals for myself: 1. Casting the Euro Rig Although this is a goal every time I go out, when using a mono/euro rig, I noticed my distance was pretty limited. This is usually due to me overweighting the system and the flies in most cases drifting directly below the tip of my rod. Even though this has been pretty successful for me, I still want to be able to extend the area of fishable space when gridding out the water. 2. Adjusting the size of the bead before adding any additional weight This week I tied up some new perdigon/nymph style patterns using tungsten and wire wraps. I wanted to challenge myself with more of a competition style setup, and also see how far I can cast without overweighting the system. I know I’m not competing, and one of the best things about fishing is the problem solving and adjusting to different situations and variables. This is what continues to keep me engaged. By working on these goals ideally takes me out of my comfort zone and forces me to learn and try new things while out on the water.
