A handful of Loblolly Pine Needles are all you need to ignite kindling. They are plentiful, easy to ignite because an ember's heat will transfer to them readily, intense burners, and long lasting. Additionally, something that nobody ever considers... after the flames die down, left behind is a huge intensely hot ember that is viable for minutes.
