Samsung Electronics posts highest-ever sales for Q1

Samsung Electronics,... for the third straight quarter,... has logged its highest-ever sales for respective quarters. The South Korean tech giant announced on Thursday that its sales from January to March amounted to a record 61 billion U.S. dollars,... up around 19 percent on-year. Its sales increased by more than 600 million dollars from its projection announced earlier this month. Samsung also said its operating profit for the first quarter stands at roughly 11 billion dollars,... up more than 50 percent on-year. It's the second largest operating profit among all first quarters for the firm. Samsung attributed the rise to its smartphone and home appliance businesses recording their highest sales for the first quarter since 2013. Analysts say, despite the first quarter usually being a slow time of the year, robust sales of semiconductors and displays led to the strong earnings performance. "Better performance of memory semiconductor and foundry businesses has largely driven Samsung Electronics' solid earnings. Flexible OLED also recorded better than expected earnings which led Samsung Display to post robust sales." The analyst also said the earnings are expected to be higher in the coming months. "Conventionally Samsung Electronics enters its peak season in the second half of the year, so from the third quarter, the earnings are forecast to rise further." He added that the company's stock prices are expected to rise if geopolitical risks including the war in Ukraine and global supply bottleneck amid China's lockdown of its major cities are resolved.
