Former Karnataka chief minister Jagadish Shettar has reportedly resigned from the Karnataka Assembly over his candidature not being reconsidered by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the upcoming May 10 election. According to Congress sources, Shettar is currently in talks with senior Congress leaders after flying from Hubballi to Bengaluru in a special helicopter on Sunday. The sources also revealed that Shettar held discussions with Congress general secretary (Karnataka in-charge) Randeep Singh Surjewala, Congress state chief D K Shivakumar, and former minister H K Patil. The Congress leaders are said to have held discussions with Shettar on the possibility of him joining the Congress party. Shettar, a senior BJP leader, had represented the Hubli-Dharwad Central constituency in the Karnataka Assembly since 2008. He was also the Chief Minister of Karnataka between 2012 and 2013. However, the BJP has reportedly denied him a ticket for the upcoming elections, which has led to his resignation from the Assembly and his talks with the Congress party. If Shettar does decide to join the Congress party, it could have significant implications for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections. The Congress party is already in a strong position in the state, with D K Shivakumar leading the party's campaign. Shettar's addition to the Congress could further strengthen the party's position and increase its chances of winning the election. However, it is not yet clear if Shettar will indeed join the Congress party. The discussions between Shettar and the Congress leaders are said to be ongoing, and it remains to be seen what decision Shettar will ultimately make. The BJP, on the other hand, has dismissed Shettar's resignation and his talks with the Congress party as a non-issue. The party has expressed confidence in its ability to win the upcoming elections without Shettar's support. #jagadishshettar #karnatakaassemblyelection2023 #bjp #congress #karnataka #karnatakanews #karnatakalatestnews #jagadish Subscribe to The Times of India's YouTube channel: http://goo.gl/WgIatu For daily news & updates and exclusive stories, follow the Times of India Facebook: / timesofindia Instagram: / timesofindia Download the app: http://toi.in/3SLUCa80 Follow TOI+ for well-researched and in-depth news and analysis Facebook: / timesofindiaplus Twitter: / toiplus Instagram: / toi_plus
