This idea has grown from comparing two symbols from several the Game of Thrones seasons. We have seen two White Walker symbols in the snow. One a circle with something like a line going through it in S1E1 (3m1s). The second a series of spiralling lines radiating out from a central point in S3E3 (18m25s). The first resembles the funeral fire of Khal Drogo S1E10 (47m22s). The second is from above a Weirwood Tree where the Night King originally was created by the Children of the Forest. S6E5 (15m57s). Maybe the Night King just wants to tell the living that he needs to meet with Fire (=Daenerys) at the spot where his Icy prison was established (when the Children of the Forest created him). Since the living do not understand the dead (who incidentally are showing the fire priestesses and Jon Snow that there actually IS something after dying) he has to destroy everything on his way south. Just a thought and a theory...
