(See BELOW!) Demonstration for tutors (by their director, Mindy Brouse) of a Master Artists lesson for Michelangelo. This is an alternative lesson, not the two options in the book referred to in the F guide. It focuses on Michelangelo’s preference for sculpture. Important NOTE: Why do I give them templates and REQUIRE them to use one of those? Because students have a hard time understanding the concept as well as the art perspective needed to make the design work and fit on the bar of soap. When we practiced this with kids without templates, the following happened: They mostly just drew their design on the top of the bar of soap. They didn't want to carve away from their design. They had a hard time getting the right measurement for their design on the soap. They didn't really sculpt. SOOOO.ooo... I require them to choose from one of the templates for this project and explain that it is NOT a creative art lesson, but a lesson on a master artist. If they love this project, they can ask their parent to buy them a bar of soap to do their own design. ;) We said this in class when it happened in the Masters class (most likely to happen there) and the students respected the boundaries. It's an easy project to do at home, which helps deepen the study.
