Summer vs. Winter Tropical Garden Tours featuring Banana, Canna Liliy & Elephant Ears in California

Before & After look at my tropical garden. From a beautiful lush tropical garden in the summer to a brown and dying tropical garden in the winter. My garden mainly consists of Canna Lilies,, Banana plants, and Elephant Ear plants also known as Alocasias and Colocasias. My garden usually looks good in the winter with the low temperatures at 35 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit during the cold mornings. But when the temperatures drop to freezing at 32 degrees and below, my tropical garden suffers the most damage. The frost will kill the leaves and over the next few weeks the garden turns brown and ugly. This happens every year, but the good thing is that every spring the plants grow back. When it starts warming up, I will prune all the dead leaves and cut down the banana plants that are dead. This video shows the downsides of having a tropical garden in a non-tropical zone where the temperatures don't stay warm all year round. The only good thing with having a tropical garden that dies off every winter, is that I can watch it regrow in the spring and make more of my Watch It Grow videos on my tropical plants.
