Favourite Late Summer Plants | August Flowering Perennials and Annuals | Cottage Garden Tour

Late summer in our cottage garden is filled with an array of colours from our perennials and annuals. There are so many plants to capture our interest but we thought we would just highlight some of the main ones that are our favourites at the moment. One of our favourite late summer plants is the Crocosmia and we have four different varieties that we grow in the garden. With the exception of Crocosmia 'Lucifer', who has already flowered, these are looking their best right now. Growing amongst the other perennials in the borders, their presence is made known by their bright shades of orange, yellow and red. Another favourite throughout this time is the Calendula, and we are growing three different varieties this year - Calendula officinalis 'Indian Prince', C. officinalis 'Snow Princess' and C. officinalis 'Pink Surprise'. All of these have been growing beautifully planted amongst the tomatoes, acting as companion plants to ward of aphids. Other favourites include sweet peas, Persicaria, Phlox, Echinacea, Aster and Zinnias.
