(9 Aug 2014) FOR CLEAN VERSION SEE STORY NUMBER: 2017175 Gaza militants resumed rocket attacks and Israel retaliated with airstrikes on Saturday morning, a day after a three-day truce collapsed between the two sides in a new round of violence. A rocket could be seen launching into the sky above Gaza City, leaving a trail of smoke behind. Elsewhere in the city, smoke billowed in at least two locations after Israeli airstrikes. The eruption of fighting on Friday shattered a brief calm in the month-long war and dealt a blow to Egyptian-led efforts to secure a long-term cease-fire between the bitter enemies. The indirect talks are meant to bring an end to the deadliest round of fighting between Israel and Hamas since the Islamic militant group seized control of Gaza in 2007. In four weeks of violence, more than 1,900 Gazans have been killed, roughly three-quarters of them civilians, according to Palestinian and United Nations officials. Sixty-seven people were killed on the Israeli side, including three civilians.
