There will now be a mandatory waiting period for women wanting to get an abortion in Tennessee. Under the new law signed yesterday, women would need to wait at least 48 hours before undergoing the procedure. The legislation came after voters approved a constitutional amendment in November giving state lawmakers more power to regulate abortions. We spoke to State Senator Todd Gardenhire about the new law. "we do not in anyway keep a person from having an abortion. we just say if you're going to have it you're gonna have it like you would any other medical procedure that goes on in the state. and it's done by a certified doctor that can deliver health care in those means ." State Sen. Todd Gardenhire said. The ballot measure overturned a 2000 Supreme Court ruling that had thrown out laws imposing similar restrictions.
