IND VS SL Series 2022 - BCCI Announce India Test Team Squad Against Srilanka | Rohit Sharma Captain Rohit Sharma Named India Test Captain, Cheteshwar Pujara-Ajinkya Rahane Dropped From Test Squad Against Sri Lanka Jasprit Bumrah has been named Rohit's deputy in the test matches. BCCI made an official announcement on Saturday, stating that Rohit will lead India against Sri Lanka in the upcoming T20 and Test series. Another announcement which has garnered attention is that middle order batters Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara have been dropped from test squad. They have been asked to play Ranji Trophy. Rohit Sharma, who was appointed as India’s white-ball captain a couple of months back, has been named as the full-time captain in the red-ball format as well. The 34-year-old’s appointment comes after Virat Kohli’s decision to step down from the position following India’s Test series loss to South Africa in January. Jasprit Bumrah has been appointed as T20 & Test vice-captain. However, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane have been dropped from the Test squad. "The selection committee thought a lot before making the decision. We spoke to them earlier. We told them we will not consider them for 2 Test matches for Sri Lanka. We told them the doors are absolutely open for them. In just 2 Test matches, selectors decided to give chances to other cricketers. They are playing Ranji Trophy," Chetan Sharma said Jasprit Bumrah has been named Rohit's deputy in the test matches. On Rohit being appointed the captain, the Chairman of the selection committee said, “He is the No 1 player of our team and plays all the formats. Time and again we will be speaking to him.” On Saha failing to make the cut, Sharma said, “I can’t tell you on what grounds he has been dropped. That’s for selectors.
