In an interesting development relating to the Pakistani judiciary the newly appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Justice Umar Atta Bandiyal has released his dissenting note against a majority 6-judges verdict that quashed charges of misconduct against a popular top judge - Justice Qazi Faez Isa. Justice Isa will succeed Justice Bandiyal as Chief Justice next year amid growing uneasiness and apprehension in the powerful military establishment ranks about such a possibility. Justice Isa issued damning verdicts against illegal military’s intervention in Pakistani politics whereafter the Military backed government of Prime Minister Imran Khan engineered a tax evasion complaint against Justice Isa. Justice Isa made history by appearing in person before his fellow judges to successfully plead his case as after over a year long legal battle the apex court recalled one of its own verdict to dismiss the government’s complaint by a 6 to 4 majority. The newly appointed Chief Justice Bandiyal said Justice Isa had been wrongly acquitted.
