Batman hunts Scarecrow across Gotham as fear toxin threatens to engulf the city. On Stagg’s airship, he learns about the Cloudburst dispersal device designed to spread the toxin citywide. Batman interrogates Stagg and battles militia forces guarding the airship, disabling turrets and drones. Scarecrow kidnaps Oracle (Barbara Gordon) and stages a cruel psychological attack, making Batman believe she died by suicide, leaving him guilt-stricken. Meanwhile, Gotham falls into chaos as Arkham Knight’s forces deploy heavily armored tanks and Cobra drones, which Batman destroys using the Batmobile. Batman enlists Poison Ivy’s help to fight Scarecrow’s toxin. Ivy uses ancient plants to absorb the gas but needs Batman to awaken buried roots across the city. With Lucius Fox’s technology upgrades, Batman scans for root systems and defends Ivy’s plants from militia assaults. Amid this, Scarecrow taunts Batman with visions of his worst fears, Joker hallucinations, and Gotham’s destruction. Batman also contends with side threats from Penguin, Two-Face, and the Riddler.
