The Spectacle Theater in Brooklyn hosted "Origins of The Dark Knight," featuring two films that inspired Batman's creation: 1928's "The Man Who Laughs" and 1930's "The Bat Whispers." "The Bat Whispers" is about a mysterious criminal, called "The Bat," who terrorizes wealthy people in a mansion. Introducing the films was Arlen Schumer, one of the foremost historians of comic book art. Arlen points out similarities between the classic film and Batman, such as the origin of the Bat Signal and logo.
