Hamburg anti-capitalist protest ahead of G20

(5 Jul 2017) Thousands of demonstrators gathered in central Hamburg on Wednesday to protest the upcoming Group of 20 meeting in the northern German city. The two-day summit is set to open on Friday. The 'Better Dance than G20' protest featured various trucks blasting techno music and demonstrators dancing. Hamburg is boosting its police force with reinforcements from around the country and will have 20,000 officers on hand to patrol the city's streets, skies and waterways for the G20 summit this week. Officials estimate that some 8,000 protesters from Europe's violent left-wing scene to be on hand and have been tracking known activists coming in from Scandinavia, Switzerland, Italy and elsewhere, according to Hamburg's police chief.
