On March 23, 2024, the Research Centre for the Study of Music, Media, and Place (MMaP), SingSong Inc., and Eleanor Dawson presented a daylong festival celebrating Newfoundland and Labrador’s rich folk song and narrative traditions. Titled “Good as a Concert,” it was a series of events offering listeners a chance to hear lesser-known songs and stories from the province’s vast repertoire. Daytime sessions took place in the MMaP Gallery and included performances organized around key themes, as well as a traditional song circle. The festival concluded with an evening concert in Suncor Energy Hall at the Memorial University School of Music. This video presents performances from the morning storytelling sessions, which focused on the theme of “The Rites of Spring.” MMaP Homepage - https://www.mun.ca/mmap/ MMaP Research Centre on Instagram - / mmapatmemorial MMaP on Facebook - http://bit.ly/2dhjmeu MMaP on BlueSky - https://bsky.app/profile/mmap.bsky.so...
