Speaking in a live broadcast on his official Facebook page, Ashraf Ghani said he was 'forced' to leave Kabul, according to translation by Al Jazeera. Mr Ghani said: 'If I had stayed I would have been witnessing bloodshed in Kabul.' He added that he had been attempting to stop Afghanistan turning 'into another Yemen of Syria', and he said that allegations he had left the country with a large amount of money were 'baseless' and 'lies'. He also insisted was no truth to allegations that he escaped with 'suitcases of cash', saying it was all part of a 'personality assasination'.
