As Gau becomes the party's most precious attacker, the lack of Relics becomes more apparent. Take Ultros for example. With 2 Earrings equipped, you could finish this battle in just two turns in a normal low level game. In our case, no equipment means no relics as well, so we don't deal as much damage as we potentially could. If Gau fails to defeat Ultros on any of the four squares where he appears, he'll change his position and his health will be back to full. Since our wild kid is very likely to fail, adequate measures are taken; namely, Locke and Edgar don't occupy a single half of the screen. That way, if Ultros decides to use Tentacle, the party will always have a character who can revive the others. He didn't use Tentacle on this attempt though. I didn't use Drill with Edgar because it doesn't even deal 300 damage and I was kinda hoping for Giga Volt to kick in. So yeah, this was a longer battle because even though Ultros has just 2K+ HP we had to deal with 8K+. Not nice at all. Ifrit/Shiva was even harder. We can neither Runic here nor reflect the spells back with Wall Rings. Blaze and Blizzard are instant KO (Blaze can be used on a single character though), so you should hope not to see either during the battle. I wanted to take Shiva out as she has less HP, so the first tactic exploited here is to make Ifrit leave the screen and let Shiva come in. To achieve that, he must be attacked five times. This is quite risky, as he counters with a Fire spell, which this time actually is deadly, as pathetic as it sounds. Gau rages Blaze in the beginning to protect him from Ifrit's attacks but when he's taken out by Shiva's magic (Bomb is weak to ice), we rage Over-Mind instead. It seems to deal more damage than Bomb too. Edgar does nothing here so that we can kill Shiva becomes Ifrit comes back again. Things are getting harder, as you can see. I'm still not sure if I have enough Fenix Downs to complete this dungeon.
