Voice of the Movies: Dawn of the Dead (1978)

For this week's episode of Voice of the Movies, a series in which I feature a different movie's soundtrack every week, I take a look at 1978's Dawn of the Dead. The music was composed by Goblin, and the album being featured here is the Waxwork release. There is another release that has some of the songs not featured in this release, but I do not own that record at this time. Someday, I'll do a supplemental review of that one... I have always believed that a films musical score in many ways is the film's "voice," and very much showcases that film's identity. In addition to loving movies, I also love and collect their soundtrack's. Specifically their score music. While source music can be effective in its own right, (i.e. Tarantino or John Hughes films) I have always held that given the option a film's score can paint a deeper picture to the film's identity. As far as I am aware, there isn't a dedicated review series for film's soundtracks. I started this unscripted series to provide myself an outlet in which I can share my thoughts on these very important aspects of movies. Being unscripted does have its drawbacks. I don't always have the smoothest of deliveries, especially when left without a prompt. However, I believe that doing reviews this way is the best way to convey my honest thoughts on a film's score.
