So bone marrow transplantation basically is divided into an autologous transplantation, an allogenic transplantation and cord stem cell transplantation. When we say autologous bone marrow transplantation, that means the stem cells that we use for transplant are taken from the patient himself. So it is done in disease like multiple myeloma, where the disease is put into remission and the stem cells are collected from the patient himself. Allogenic transplantation is a type of bone marrow transplantation wherein the stem cells are donated from another person. So it could be a family relative or an unrelated voluntary donor. So those are called as allogenic bone marrow transplantation. Now it can also be cord stem cell transplantation wherein the stem cell is taken from the umbilical cord. So these are the three types of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation that we do.
