Theophilus Eugene “Bull” Connor (July 11, 1897 - March 10, 1973) was the Commissioner of Public Safety for the city of Birmingham, Alabama, during the Civil Rights Movement. Through that office, Connor had complete control of the Birmingham Fire and Police Departments. His actions to direct the use of fire hoses and police attack dogs against civil rights activists…including children...were presented almost nightly on television sets around the world. This helped make him an international symbol of racism. ___________________________________ The African American History Is AMERICAN History (AAHIAH) Channel on YouTube, appeals to people of every race & age, from middle school to middle age.
