(17 Jan 2019) Florida Republican Senator Rick Scott is defending US President Donald Trump's decision to reject a short-term fix to the partial government shutdown, indicating that he thinks Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is not acting in good faith. Some senators have been pushing to reopen the government for three weeks while talks continue. But Sen. Scott said Trump sees, "Nancy Pelosi saying there is not going to be a dime (for the wall). It's a legitimate issue if you believe people are going to act in good faith and have a real negotiation but as we watch that's not what Nancy Pelosi's saying. She's saying zero." Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Scott said he's co-sponsoring a bill with Indiana Republican Sen. Mike Braun to withold congressional members' pay until the shutdown is over. The former governor of Florida also said he supports legislation to pay the Coast Guard during the shutdown.
