Why are we in LA? The Clash was an event usually run at Daytona the week before the Daytona 500. After many years of mediocre racing and declining ratings. In 2020, NASCAR changed the event to the Daytona Roval. While it was different, fans still criticized the event for being "Boring." Event History: In 2021, NASCAR made the decision to completely overhaul the event and move it across the country to Los Angeles California to the Famed LA Coliseum! This location has held 2 Super-bowls (Superbowl I,VII) Two Summer Olympics (X,XXIII) and One World Series (1959). Now the LA Coliseum is the official location for the Busch Clash for NASCAR Usually held in the first weekend of February. Race Eligibility: In this race, Kyle Busch and Tyler Reddick claimed the front row from Qualifying. They then ran 4 Qualifying races where the top 4 drivers advance to the Clash. After all 4 qualifying races, the remaining drivers will compete in a "Last Chance Qualifying Race" where the top 3 drivers in the 2 races advance to the Clash. That leaves 22 drivers in the main event, but they allowed the highest finishing driver of 2021, not in the main event yet, will qualify automatically. Confused yet? Main Event Format: The main event was 150 laps with a competition caution on lap 75 for a Halftime show by Ice Cube. Leaders: Tyler Reddick lead the first lap, Followed by Kyle Busch leading the next 2, Reddick took the lead again all the way till lap 53 where Kyle Busch led till lap 115 when Joey Logano took the lead for the rest of the race and eventually won the event. Cautions: 5 Cautions were displayed including the Competition Caution on lap 75. 1. 47 Spun in turn 4 after contact with 21 Harrison Burton. 2. 9 Spins alone in turn 4. 3. Comp. 4. 12 Slow on track after contact with 43. 5. 31 Crashes into front stretch barrier after retaliation from the 5. Winner: Joey Logano wins the main event by .88 Seconds over Kyle Busch.
