Saints Faustinus and Jovita (15 February): Butler's Lives of the Saints

Saints Faustinus and Jovita were brothers, nobly born and zealous defenders of the Christian Faith in Brescia during a fierce Roman persecution. While their bishop lay hidden, these two men stepped forward without fear, preaching Christ openly and boldly. Their courage enraged the pagan authorities. Arrested and brought before the emperor (traditionally associated with Hadrian), neither threats nor torture could shake their constancy. They were ultimately beheaded for refusing to deny Christ. Their martyrdom reveals a profound truth: The spirit of Christ is the spirit of the Cross.
