Headlines: M Nageswara Rao as interim CBI director challenged in SC

1. NGO Common Cause today moved the Supreme Court challenging the appointment of M Nageswara Rao as the interim director of the Central Bureau of Investigation. The petition was filed through advocate Prashant Bhushan, seeking that the appointment order be quashed. It also sought a direction to the Centre to appoint a regular CBI director by following the procedure laid down in Section 4A of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946. 2. According to Indian express report A thousand trees have been cut ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Odisha on Tuesday, leading to three government departments shifting blame on to one another. The trees were cleared to make space for a temporary helipad for the Prime Minister’s use. 3. A chargesheet was filed today against former student union leaders Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and eight others for allegedly holding an ""anti-national"" event at JNU in February 2016. They have been accused of organising an event on the college campus against the hanging of Parliament-attack mastermind Afzal Guru. 5. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party have sought feedback from citizens through a survey on the NaMo app. The survey, titled “People’s Pulse”, asks people if the mahagathbandhan will work, and also seeks ratings on various parameters of governance.
