A short filmic essay about brutalist architecture... This is a student film. Submitted as a part of a first year film production project at The University of Canberra, where the assignment required us to make a filmic essay that was linked to the theme "The creative process". My project explores the art of Brutalism, filming around the Brutalist buildings of Canberra, some of which are meant to be knocked down. With evocative shots of these special Canberran buildings, I illustrate how this style of architecture relates to the human creative process and how it can inspire us to be creative using the unique perspective Brutalism provides. Soundtracks are both Australian artists, one of which being from Canberra. Directors Statement: Being born and raised here in Canberra, and coming to a point here I feel as though I have seen most of the city, I've grown a strong appreciation for the hidden Brutalist buildings. These buildings tell a story of a different time while fitting into todays environment somewhat seamlessly. I believe Brutalism can tell us things about art and ourselves that perhaps not everyone is ready to explore. This is an art form that deserves the attention it has only recently regained. This is my ode to these beautiful buildings here in Canberra.
