She Loves You - Drum Cover | The Beatles I AbbeyTunes

I hope you enjoy this new drum cover! As a drummer, my aim is to constantly improve my drumming skills. Let me know what you think of this drum performance and the drum beats I've laid down! ‘She Loves You’ was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney on the night of 26 June 1963 in a hotel room in Newcastle, following a concert with Roy Orbison, and was finished the following day at Paul’s parents’ house in Liverpool. It was recorded by The Beatles on 1 July 1963 in Studio 2 at EMI Studios (now Abbey Road) in London, during a five-hour session. It is not a cover version: it is an original song by The Beatles, written by Lennon-McCartney. The single was released in the UK on 23 August 1963 with ‘I’ll Get You’ on the B-side, and became the best-selling single of 1963 in the UK. In the United States, it was initially ignored upon its release by Swan Records on 16 September 1963, but reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on 21 March 1964, when Beatlemania took off. The drums were played by Ringo Starr, who used his first Ludwig Downbeat Oyster Black Pearl kit, received on 12 May 1963 (replacing his previous Premier kit). This kit was the first Ludwig that Ringo used with The Beatles and was used in over 200 performances. An overhead microphone positioned above the drums was used during the recording to capture a more precise sound, alongside separate compression for the bass and drums, which added presence and brightness to the mix. Sound engineer Geoff Emerick noted that the excitement caused by fans who stormed the studio during the session contributed to Ringo’s electrifying performance. In forums and drum lessons, Ringo’s drum intro is highlighted: a short figure on the floor tom followed by octaves, with snare on beats 2 and 4, and the famous quarter-note triplet on the snare on the third beat of bar 3. Fans highlight the use of flams (striking with both hands simultaneously), a key feature of Ringo’s style, and the opening of the hi-hat to create a ‘sizzle’ effect. Many consider the groove of ‘She Loves You’ to be one of Ringo’s most classic, with a kick-snare-kick-snare pattern on quarter notes and a final fill on the rack tom and floor tom. The ‘yeah, yeah, yeah’ and the song’s rhythmic energy fuelled the ye-yé movement, and Ringo’s drumming is cited as fundamental to that vibe. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOLLOW ME: FULL COVERS CHANNEL: ‪@juodet‬ Instagram @abbey_tunes TikTok abbey_tunes_drums
