Coronavirus outbreak: Alberta announces 2020-21 re-entry plan for schools | FULL

Alberta Education Minister Adriana LaGrange and chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw held a COVID-19 briefing on Wednesday where LaGrange announced the province’s strategy for the 2020-21 school year. LaGrange said that of the three scenarios presented in early May, which are based on the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the province, they are aiming for the first, which would see schools return to “near-normal operations” with students returning to daily in-school classes with some health measures. The second scenario would see schools resume “partially” due to additional health requirements, while the third scenario would see at-home learning continue. She said based on information they have at this time, the province expects students will be back in the classroom by September. The minister said it would make the final decision on which scenario schools would follow by August 1. She added that all school boards would need to be ready to transition from one scenario to the other dependent on where the province is in the COVID-19 situation. Hinshaw reported on Wednesday that 6,754 Albertans had recovered from COVID-19, leaving 371 active cases. There were also no deaths in the past 24 hours, with the total remaining at 151.
