Mario Kart Wii -- 20 May 2014, Worldwide Battles #02

The titling system I came up with way back when I was just starting with YouTube videos in the first place and Mario Kart Wii was one of the few games in my wheelhouse at the time that I felt like lent themselves to uploading on a regular basis... is REALLY awkward... I really don't feel like it's reasonable to invent a new standard even as I struggle to match them going back... besides, this is the LAST Battle Mode video I'll upload from this game. Also, my description last time was so full of random observations that I must've made at least oblique references to the same subject matter before in another fashion by now... that not only did I not have enough room to describe all the matches equally, I also didn't describe the awkward top "heading" of the character and vehicle choice! --- 20 May 2014 Wario Standard Bike L Wait... why the heck did I ever bother DATING the headers like this? Man, I was ridiculous back when I was first doing these things! Glad to see that I ditched this awkward header-based description nonsense a long time ago! Erm... Wario. Standard Bike. It's large. Like he is. I'm pretty sure I mus use this combination for at least half of all battles for some reason. (It's so I can push people around and use bikes without sacrificing much because I can't Super Mini Turbo.) --- Match #1 -- Block Plaza I had forgotten just how iffy the hit detection was in Mario Kart Wii, so maybe it's not just me that's bad at aiming in this game. (Or maybe it's just a really weird thing that one just has to adjust to... which I certainly did not.) Copy and paste my suppositions about item usage being tuned to players all moving around curves drastically simplifying the aiming process, but without the potentially inflammatory conclusions that maybe Mario Kart 8 had a point with its drastically different take on Battle Mode environments. Actually, to go the OTHER way, I know that a lot of players from the Mario Kart 64 era probably fondly recall the complexity of the Block Fort arena... but that place was really HUGE, especially if you had relatively few players, maxing out at four... personally, it was usually two for me. Did you know that playing with more than two players on Mario Kart 64 came at the total expense of the music? Man, that was creepy when I first tried it... old-school limitations! ... ... ...I don't know what my point was anymore, but I think I enjoyed (only half/not) making it. --- Match #2 -- N64 Skyscraper I'm sure it's WAY late to make this mention, but joining me in these twilight hours of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection are some repeat-offender types to my online misadventures, namely: Lombardi88:    / falco18   twitter.com/brosotired88 Shyamalan:    / overhazard   Katie:    / bakkatshow   twitter.com/thebakkat Do people actually use this information? It somehow feels rude not to include it, which I know I never actually remember to ALL the time... but then is it somehow LESS considerate to share that kind of publicly-obfuscated information without asking first? Or are you, dear reader, going to ignore my moral quandary yet again because this is really even less important discourse than the information being disclosed in the first place? (I honestly have no idea.) ...wait, is ByeByeWifi someone I know as well? Actually, it's more likely one of Shyamalan's many casual followers, but the relative anonymity afforded by taking on a Mii's given name for your license makes it tough to know. I'm confused... weren't ties generally uncommon occurrences? These battle results are kinda freaking me out! --- Match #3 -- Thwomp Desert Add this to another one of the really cool stages they came up with for Mario Kart Wii, on top of some pretty neat places they invented in Mario Kart DS that wouldn't really get the chance to propagate to future Mario Kart games... at least if the pattern set as of this writing with Mario Kart 8 holds out any longer than my present point of speculation... It's been awhile since I've played Coin Runners... and pretty long in between times, obviously... but I feel like I'm pretty overly... offensive at it? Somehow it seems like reinventing the wheel and leaving oneself wide open to collect coins after a wreckage with hostile players still in the immediate vicinity... but if you DON'T, how will you get anywhere score-wise? --- Match #4 -- Funky Stadium Something about Funky Stadium never really clicked with me... but it IS a rather interesting little playground for all the new features Mario Kart Wii added to the series. I just always feel like such a non-factor here with how spread out and difficult to pin down the action turns out to be... (the joys of cruising around and being a non-factor!) --- I have a license to use Nintendo’s content in this video through the Nintendo Creators Program.
