Iowa Interstate #516
Filmed 08/19/17 @ 9:00am This just kinda fell into our laps Saturday morning on our way to the Iowa State Fair to work at the train club. By rights we should not have seen this either. Had I not forgotten my ticket to get into the fairgrounds, we wouldn't have had to go back to the hotel to get my ticket. But because of the delay, and this train running a bit late, we came upon it on W Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy heading west. I'm not familiar with the area and I wasn't driving, but the people I was with said there really wasn't a good place to go get it. We weren't going to turn around at first, but then decided to at least try. Thanks to it moving slowly, Garmin maps, and Susan driving like Sally Fields, we were able to get ahead of it and stake out a place practically on the boarder of West Des Moines and Des Moines. As it turns out, this was the second time I've been able to see both of these units. A couple years ago they were painted down here in Kansas City at Mid-America Car. So it was kinda neat that these were the first units I was able to film in action. Sunday's video will be more from the Central Iowa Railroad Club, I have several Sunday's worth of video from there and then I have an Ops Session from the Buffalo & Pittsburgh N scale layout.
