He was found dead in his prison cell near Barcelona , Spain, according to multiple sources. Authorities are still investigating the cause of his demise but his lawyer Told Reuters That had McAfee died by suIcide. A statement was made by the regional Catalan government describing an attempt To revive a 75-year-old US citizen who was awaiting extradition to his country however they did not mention that it was McAfee . Spain's National court had ruled hours earlier for his extraction to the united states. McAfee was a person of interest in The US for evading taxes, which could have gotten him a 30 year prison sentence. Prosecutors in Tennessee had charged the software mogul, after failure To report income he made from speaking engagements, selling the rights of his life story for a documentary and promoting cryptocurrencies . McAfee was arrested in October 2020 at the Barcelona airport .He has been in prison since then , awaiting his extradition hearing. Earlier this month, during a hearing McAfee claimed the charges were politically motivated and he was afraid he would spend his life behind bars upon arrival in the US. Prior to all this McAfee was also a person of interest in the death of George Faull and he was ordered by a Florida Court to pay $25 million in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Faull's estate. When Faull was found dead in his Belizean home, McAfee headed to Guatemala. He was keeping a low profile since then up until his attempt to run for the presidency of United States in 2016.He also ran in 2020. He is remembered in the 2016 documentary The "Gringo :The dangerous life of John McAfee though he refused to appear in it. In some of his final tweets McAfee tweeted on 10th June about life in prison " There is much sorrow in prison, disguised as hostility. The sorrow is plainly visible even in most angry faces. I'm old and content with food and a bed but for the young prison is a horror - a reflection of the minds of those who conceived them. and on 18/06/2021 his last tweet said " In democracy power is given not taken.
