Gaza Strip - Artist Ai Weiwei in Gaza for refugee project | Editor's Pick | 13 May 16

Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei is visiting the Gaza Strip as part of a documentary he is making about Middle East refugees. The activist crossed into Gaza through Israel with a crew of 10 people on Tuesday (10 MAY 2016). The documentary will highlight the plight of millions of Syrians who fled the civil war in their home to neighboring countries or took perilous voyages in boats to Europe. But on Wednesday, Ai said he is also including Palestinian refugees in the film because they constituted "the longest history" of displacement and their numbers - estimated at more than five million people, according to the United Nations - complicated any settlement of their cause. Ai and his crew have already filmed in Jordan, Turkey, Greece and several other countries that are hosting Syrian refugees.
