🌒 Exploring St Albans, the Roman city near London Thank you for watching! Please kindly consider supporting this channel using the Like and Subscribe buttons. Let me take you to St Albans, a city only 30 minutes train journey from London. This is where my partner and I tend to spend our Saturdays every so often. I don't mean to be a history nerd when I say this place has quite an impressive repertoire of places and stories. It used to be a town in Roman Britain (the second biggest after Londonium), and it has seen many evolutions through Anglo-Saxon, Medieval and modern times. If you're a tourist that has already been to London a few times and want to see a more traditional and relaxed version of England - I highly recommend hopping on a train from St Pancras to St Albans City. In its centre there's a rich mix of gothic architecture of the cathedral, many cute little shops, cafés and restaurants, an old clock tower to climb and beautiful residential streets. The big park offers a lovely green space and is dotted with archeological findings (it's also about to feature in the "Wonka" film with Timothée Chalamet). Come on a Saturday, and you can enjoy the busy market and grab some food from one of the food stalls - or once a month on a Sunday, when they have a vintage market. Explore the courtroom-turned-café and cells in the Museum and Gallery at the centre of the market. And the list goes on... Oh, maybe one day we'll be able to move there 🥲 Places: • St Alban's Abbey/Cathedral: https://www.stalbanscathedral.org/ • Verulamium Park: https://www.enjoystalbans.com/listing... • Roman Mosaic (Hypocaust): https://www.stalbansmuseums.org.uk/vi... • George Street: https://g.co/kgs/PNyGS9 • Books on the Hill: https://www.books-on-the-hill.co.uk/ • Raindrops on Roses shop: https://raindropsonroses.org.uk/ • Clock Tower: https://www.stalbansmuseums.org.uk/vi... • Saturday market: https://www.enjoystalbans.com/listing... • St Albans Museum + Gallery: https://www.stalbansmuseums.org.uk/vi... • The Deli on Verulam: https://thedelionverulam.com/ • Tabure Turkish restaurant: https://tabure.co.uk/ The Pudding Stop: https://thepuddingstop.com/ • Ye Olde Fighting Cocks, oldest British pub: https://www.fightingcockssa.com/ • Sopwell Ruins (not in the video, but recommended): https://www.stalbansmuseums.org.uk/vi... #silentvlog Chapters: 0:00 - The streets of St Albans 0:42 - Oldest pub in the UK, Ye Olde Fighting Cocks 1:08 - Verulamium Park 1:59 - The Roman Mosaic and Hypocaust 3:36 - St Albans Abbey and Cathedral 5:34 - George Street, St Albans 6:00 - Books on the Hill bookshop and café 7:33 - Shops, Saturday market and Clock Tower 8:39 - St Albans Museum and Gallery 9:29 - Tabure and The Pudding Stop 10:23 - Night with the cats 🌔 Music Verulamium Park: Michael FK - Still Life St Albans Abbey and George Street: We Dream of Eden - Morning Mist Bookshop, market and museum: REW - Orchidaceae Dinner, dessert and home with the cats: We Dream of Eden - Outside In https://artlist.io/wint. -4022184 🌕 Listening these days Amber Mark - Worth It https://open.spotify.com/track/7yeAu4... One of the most beautiful songs in my eyes from the last few years. I've been following Amber's music ever since an odd encounter I had with one of her songs while on a trip in Limassol, Cyprus. Her wonderful debut EP 3:33 is a bittersweet creation dealing with the loss of her mother - do check it as well. In 2019 I saw her live in London and even had the chance to talk to her in person - and she was lovely! 🌖 Subtitles I would love your help with making this video available in other languages.
