Russian missile strike damages Orthodox Transfiguration Cathedral in Odesa | SBS News

Russian missile strikes severely damaged a cathedral in the south-Ukrainian city of Odesa, its military administration said. Odesa's largest church building, it is located in the historic city centre, which is a UNESCO world heritage site, got damaged in a Russian overnight missile attack that killed one and injured 19. The Spaso-Preobrazhenskyi Cathedral, or the Transfiguration Cathedral, was demolished in 1936 as part of Stalin's anti-religious campaigns and rebuilt when Ukraine gained independence from Moscow in 1991.
