By Ron Harris It was a fantastic day for Brazilian bodybuilding today in Sao Paolo for the Musclecontest International promotion of the first Arnold Classic South America in three years. And even better, 4 out of the 5 men in the top five were native sons of Brazil. In fifth place was 22-year-old Emir Omeragic. Emir has excellent potential, with a pleasing shape and structure along with sharp conditioning. With more leg mass and back thickness he will move up the ranks soon. Willian Martins was fourth with a dense, thickly-muscled frame. Had he been tighter in the glutes and hams, I suspect his placing would have been higher. Newcomer Thiago Lins took third place with one of the best sets of traps and lats up there. More upper chest thickness will balance that out and make him even more ruggedly muscled. Vitor Boff was the real surprise of this show for me, as I had never heard his name before this week. Not only was he in the first callout, but he was put in the middle rather than Rafael on more than one occasion. He’s got wide delts and a narrow waist, and his legs would look better with improved posing, keeping them closer together rather than spread wide (details like this really do matter at this level when it’s close!). And a massive congratulations to Rafael Brandao for keeping the title right there in Brazil. The fans were electric in their response to his win, and Brandao’s pride and joy at winning this title he had craved for years was unmistakable.
