Press conference following the Council of Ministers meeting of April 7, 2026, featuring the Government Spokesperson, Elma Saiz, and the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo. The Council of Ministers has approved the constitutional reform to protect abortion rights, in its second reading, before sending it to Congress. It is expected to fail, as the People's Party (PP) does not support it, and a three-fifths majority in the lower house is required for its approval. The Executive proposes adding a new section 4 to Article 43 of the Spanish Constitution, which establishes the right to health protection, to guarantee the right to voluntary termination of pregnancy (VTP) under equal conditions throughout the national territory, with all necessary benefits and services. The Minister for Equality, Ana Redondo, explained that with this initiative, "Spain is advancing in the social and legal recognition of women's right to self-determination and their necessary protection against regressive dynamics." "It is an important day for Spanish democracy," she asserted. The Government also plans to approve aid for the areas affected by Storm Therese in several autonomous communities (Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Castilla-La Mancha, and Castilla y León), where serious material and personal damage has occurred. #CouncilofMinisters #GovernmentofSpain #Abortion #Aid #BreakingNews #News #LiveNews #StreamingNews #Live #Spain #NewsInSpanish #News 👉👉 More news: https://www.rtve.es/noticias ➤SUBSCRIBE to RTVE News on YouTube: https://bit.ly/2WtyvUx ✔️Follow us on Instagram: / rtvenoticias ✔️Follow us on Twitter: / rtvenoticias ✔️Follow us on Facebook: / rtvenoticias
